Red spots w/Accutane

Question:

I had the same problem, and they do fade in time. However.. I have began using Neostrata products and I am very pleased with the results. I believe they sell a product that helps reduce the acne scarring and red marks. CHeck out their web site. I believe it is Neostrata.com. I think the red marks are caused by tiny blood vessels.  There is something you can do.  You can get them zapped by a vascular laser. It costs about $200 per treatment and usually takes more than one treatment.  To get it done, you need to go to a cosmetic surgeon.

Hi!  I may be off in this explanation, but it seems to me that the red spots are a sort of mild scarring caused by the pimple that was there. Since the pimple’s origin was deep beneath the skin, the redness is, too. When the derm says it takes time, he means that it’ll take as long as it takes for all those layers of red skin cells to come to the surface, die, and fall off. If you imagine that the cells are many many layers thick, you begin to understand the time factor involved. Skin normally refreshes completely ever so often (I can’t quote the actual time, but a doctor could tell you). The spots will really fade with time, but I don’t think there’s much you can do topically to hurry the process. Very gentle exfoliation may help a little. M.

I’m starting my 4th month of Accutane.  My acne has pretty much cleared up, but I have red spots where the pimples were.  Do these spots fade or go away?  If so, how long does it take?

Exactly how I feel.  The same problem for me is not the acne anymore….it’s the problem right after..can’t stand the red spots, it used to be I would just get the brown hyperpigmentation mark but then quite awhile back I began getting those stupid red marks….does anyone know what exactly the red marks are?  And I find it so surprising that every derm I ask, just says that it takes time?! Isn’t there anything that can help them go away quicker, fade better or not be as noticeable? I can’t believe derms have topicals and oral solutions for the acne, but nothing for the red marks!
