Red Antifreeze ?
Question:
I opened my radiator yesterday and it has red antifreeze in it ???? What kind of antifreeze is this ? I have only seen green . Ken
Response:
Red antifreeze (dex-cool) is a new kind of long-life anti-freeze from GM. It can be used with green antifreeze in older vehicles. Green anti-freeze can not be added to newer Dex-Cool (red) systems. Texaco makes a orange anti-freeze which is interchangable with red anti-freeze. (according to product packaging) The benefits are advertised as "corosion inhibiting" Hope this helps
Response:
Can I get it at the local auto parts store ? The red one that is ?
Response:
IF you mix the red with the green you will get a jell like substance from what I have heard, which clogs your entire cooling system. Never seen it but read plenty about it. Grease

Response:
Be careful when you go to an "Auto Lube" type place… they fill everything in your vehicle as part of their service. On one occasion, they topped off my coolant with regular anti-freeze and I had to drain and flush the whole system.
